Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and the regions
AI consultants for Auckland, Wellington and all of New Zealand
Solve8's AI consultants work with mid-sized to enterprise, multi-site New Zealand organisations, building AI for the step your best people do from memory, inside your systems.
Working with an AI agency in New Zealand from across the Tasman
New Zealand organisations searching for an AI agency or an AI consultant in Auckland or Wellington have local options and Australian ones. We are an Australian consultancy with no New Zealand office: our consultants fly in for workshops and work remotely between visits. The checks further down help you judge any firm on either side of the Tasman, including us.
The delivery model travels well. Your data stays in a New Zealand or Australian cloud region you control, or on your own servers, and IPP 12 is worked through before any personal information leaves the country. Each phase has a fixed fee agreed before we start, and you can stop after any phase.
Many New Zealand groups run Xero, which started in Wellington, alongside MYOB, NetSuite or Dynamics. Multi-entity reporting in Power BI, invoice and claims processing, and document-heavy compliance work are the usual first projects.
Where the manual work sits in New Zealand
Auckland
Professional services, construction, distribution and financial services firms where quotes, claims and documents pass through an inbox.
Wellington
Government agencies, their suppliers and professional firms, where governance documentation matters as much as the automation.
Christchurch and Canterbury
Manufacturing, engineering and construction data spread across a historian, an ERP and spreadsheets.
The regions
Dairy, horticulture, forestry and the processors and freight operators around them.
How to choose an AI consultant in New Zealand
Checks for a New Zealand shortlist, local or Australian, with our answer to each.
Ownership of what is built
Ask whether the code, prompts and configuration transfer to you. Ours do, with documentation and admin access.
Where the data sits
Ask which country each component runs in. We build in your own cloud or on your servers in New Zealand or Australia, and record in the design any service only offered in Australia.
Privacy Act fluency
Ask how the design meets the information privacy principles, including IPP 3A and IPP 12. We map each data flow against them before the design is signed off.
Fixed phases you can stop
Ask for a fee per phase and a written stop point. We agree both before work starts.
Delivered systems
Ask to see something live. Ours include Carbonly.ai, RootCauseAI and a workforce app still used by a company of 1,500+ staff.
Your finance and field systems
Ask which platforms they have integrated. Our engineers connect Xero, MYOB, NetSuite, Dynamics and SAP, plus ServiceM8 and simPRO for field teams.
Time in the room
Ask how often they will be on site. Our consultants fly in for workshops and handover, with video sessions in your morning between visits.
Support across the Tasman
Ask who answers when something breaks. We hand over runbooks and training, and managed AI support is there if you want it.

AI under the Privacy Act 2020
New Zealand has no standalone AI act, so the Privacy Act 2020 does most of the work, and the 2025 amendment added IPP 3A for information collected from third parties. We map every data flow against the principles before the design is signed off.
- Data flows mapped against the information privacy principles
- Hosting in a New Zealand or Australian region, or on your own servers
- Documentation ready for an Algorithm Charter review

AI in New Zealand: industries, rules and first projects
Auckland carries most of the country's financial and professional services, construction and distribution. Wellington is home to central government and the firms that supply it. Canterbury has a strong manufacturing and engineering base, and the regions run on dairy, meat, horticulture and forestry, with processors and freight operators around them.
Most of the rules that shape AI here sit in existing law. The Privacy Act 2020 covers AI like any other system, IPP 3A on information collected from third parties has been in force since 1 May 2026, and serious privacy breaches must be notified to the Privacy Commissioner. Health agencies also work under the Health Information Privacy Code 2020. Public sector agencies follow the Algorithm Charter for Aotearoa New Zealand and the Public Service AI Framework released in January 2025, and construction payment claims run under the Construction Contracts Act 2002.
New Zealand organisations usually start with work that crosses an inbox: claims, supplier invoices and payment claims, consolidated reporting across entities, and the documentation an agency needs before it approves an algorithm.

Questions
Do you provide AI consultants in Wellington and Auckland?
Our AI consultants travel to Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch for workshops, then build remotely in hours that overlap your working day. Wellington engagements often involve agencies and their suppliers, where Algorithm Charter documentation matters as much as the automation itself.
What should an Auckland organisation look for in an AI consultant?
An Auckland organisation should look for an AI consultant who can integrate with its finance and operations systems, keep data in a location it approves and show work already running in production. Ask how the consultant handles IPP 12 if any service sits in Australia, who will be on site and what you keep if you stop after the first phase.
How much does an AI consultant cost in New Zealand?
The cost of an AI consultant in New Zealand depends on the systems involved, the state of your data, the hosting location you need and how many sites are in scope. We quote a fixed fee for each phase in writing after discovery, with travel to New Zealand planned into that scope, and you can stop after any phase.
Can an Australian AI consultancy work under New Zealand privacy law?
An Australian AI consultancy can work under New Zealand privacy law when the design follows the Privacy Act 2020 and keeps data in a location you approve. In practice that means mapping each data flow against the information privacy principles, writing down any processing in Australia so IPP 12 can be assessed, and agreeing breach notification steps before go-live.
Where can New Zealand organisations host AI data?
In a New Zealand or Australian cloud region you control, or on your own servers. Solve8 builds inside your own systems, and where a service is only offered in Australia, we say so in the design document before anything is built.
What does the Privacy Act 2020 mean for AI?
The information privacy principles apply to AI as to any other system: collect only what you need, keep it secure and accurate, and limit how it is used. IPP 12 restricts sending personal information overseas, and serious privacy breaches must be notified to the Privacy Commissioner and affected people.
What does IPP 3A mean for AI projects in New Zealand?
IPP 3A, in force from 1 May 2026, requires agencies that collect personal information from a third party to take reasonable steps to tell the person, unless an exception applies. AI projects that pull data from partners, brokers or public sources should map those flows and plan notices before go-live.
Is there an AI law in New Zealand?
New Zealand has no standalone AI law. The Government's AI strategy, published by MBIE in July 2025, relies on existing law, mainly the Privacy Act, the Fair Trading Act and the Human Rights Act, with voluntary Responsible AI Guidance for Businesses alongside it.
