Our product
Carbonly.ai: our own ESG automation product
We built Carbonly.ai to turn messy utility bills and invoices into emissions numbers an auditor can trace back to source.

The problem
Carbon reporting means reading electricity, gas and water bills from many suppliers, each in a different format. Manual extraction is slow, and errors surface when an auditor asks where a number came from.
- Many suppliers, many layouts
- NGER and ESG deadlines
- Every figure must trace to a document
How it works
Classify
Identify the document type: electricity, gas, water or waste.
Read
Understand the layout, even when a supplier changes its design.
Extract
Pull usage, billing period, site and meter details.
Validate
Check for gaps, overlaps and values that do not make sense.
Calculate
Normalise units and apply the right emission factors.
Trace
Keep an audit trail from every figure back to its source page.
What it proves for your project
Multi-agent document AI
Separate agents for each step, each one checkable.
Auditability first
Every output links back to the document it came from.
Layout changes handled
Reasoning over documents instead of brittle templates.
Reusable pattern
The same approach works for invoices, contracts and applications.
Questions
Can AI read utility bills for carbon reporting?
Yes. AI can classify electricity, gas, water and waste bills, extract usage, billing period, site and meter details, and flag gaps or overlaps, even when suppliers change their layouts. Carbonly.ai, our own product, does this and links every figure back to its source page.
Can AI help with NGER reporting?
AI can take on the slowest part of NGER and ESG reporting: reading source documents, normalising units, applying emission factors and keeping an audit trail. A person still reviews and signs off the figures, and the trail lets an auditor check any number against its document.
How does Carbonly.ai split document processing across AI agents?
Multi-agent document processing splits the work into separate AI agents for each step, such as classifying, reading, extracting, validating and calculating, so each step can be checked on its own. The same pattern works for invoices, contracts, applications and compliance records.
