The WA Government Artificial Intelligence Policy and Assurance Framework requires each public sector entity to nominate an AI Accountable Officer and to complete a self-assessment for any system or project driven by AI or automated decision making. That applies whether the system is procured, built or adapted, and at every phase of the project.
Projects go to the AI Advisory Board when residual risk after mitigation is mid-range or higher, when they are funded through the Digital Capability Fund, or when total cost exceeds $5 million. The Board's advice is non-binding, but agencies are expected to consider it fully.
WA's Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 also brings the state public sector, and in some cases its service providers, under information privacy principles for the first time. For a supplier, both mean the same thing: the agency will ask how your system handles personal information and where a person reviews its output.

WA mines, processing plants and gas facilities log equipment data into historians and SCADA systems, often the AVEVA PI System, and Pilbara iron ore is run in part from remote operations centres in Perth.
