We helped Seymour Whyte, a Tier 1 infrastructure contractor in the VINCI group, move its carbon reporting from scattered spreadsheets to automated Power BI dashboards.
Dozens of projects were running at once, and each one reported sustainability data in its own way. Some used old versions of a template, some built their own spreadsheets, some sent PDFs or typed monthly totals into an email. Units and date formats varied. The National Sustainability team spent three to four weeks each quarter finding, converting and consolidating the numbers before a report could go to leadership.
The template asks project teams for twelve data points and takes about five minutes a month to fill in. Each night a scheduled job reads every project folder, checks the data against the business rules, converts fuel and electricity use to emissions using Australian Government NGER factors and logs any errors for review in the morning. The dashboard highlights projects that have not submitted for the current period, so regional managers see the gaps in their own reviews instead of the sustainability team chasing by email.
Quarterly report preparation fell from three to four weeks to two to three days. The work took four weeks and cost under $50,000. After 30 days of post-implementation support it passed to the client's internal IT team. The system went live in 2022 and is still in daily use, and the team has added new projects and trained new staff on it without us.
